In times of famine, You satiated us; in times of plenty, You provided for us. From the sword, You saved us; from plague and pestilence, You delivered us; and from all severe illnesses, You lifted us out.

In times of famine, You satiated us; in times of plenty, You provided for us.
From the sword, You saved us; from plague and pestilence, You delivered us;
and from all severe illnesses, You lifted us out.

In the words of Charlene Aminoff:

In this posuk of Nishmas we thank Hashem for being there for us at all times — in times of hunger and in times of plenty, in moments of danger and uncertainty.

But today, when I read the words ומכל חלאים רעים דליתנו, they hit home in a way they never did before.

I’ll never forget how I felt on January 6, 2025, when the radiologist called and told me that my biopsy was malignant, that I had cancer.

In that moment, everything felt so unclear, unknown. I kept saying to myself, “Hashem, just fast-forward my life one year. Let me see where I’ll be then.”

And now, with the incredible chessed of Hashem, I’m there, on the other side.  וּמִכָּל חֳלָאִים רָעִים דִּלִּיתָנוּ – Hashem lifted me out.

We all know what it feels like to be unwell — run down, feverish, achey — and then, slowly, to come back. How often do we pause and recognize that recovery itself is a miracle?

That the strength and energy we feel each day were in a very real sense, given back to us?

So next time you read these words, stop and notice.

Say thank you — not just for the big yeshuos, but for every single time Hashem lifted you up and gently, carefully put you back on your feet.
