Nishmas Day 26 | Mrs. Charlene Aminoff
Even When It's Too Late
In the words of Charlene Aminoff: This is a story about gratitude that changed everything even when the odds seemed impossible. As many of you know, I've experienced 11 miscarriages on my journey to having my 5 beautiful children. I've always believed in sharing my story so that my experiences could help others feel less alone. Recently, a woman reached out to me with the most amazing story. After numerous failed IVF cycles, she had reached a breaking point. She was emotionally exhausted, physically drained, and spiritually depleted. When she heard my story, she decided to recite Nishmas every morning with her husband. Not only would they say the tefilah, but they took it upon themselves to really focus and infuse joy and intention into each word. During this time, she had scheduled what she believed would be her final doctor's appointment, one last evaluation to determine if another round of IVF was even possible. When the doctor entered the room with a somber expression, her heart sank, preparing for yet another disappointment. "I'm so sorry," the doctor began, "but you can't proceed with IVF." Before she could process his words, the doctor finished his sentence: "...because you're already pregnant." Against all medical expectations, after years of unsuccessful treatments, she had conceived naturally — on the 40th day of Nishmas. Tefilah doesn't always change our circumstances immediately, but it always changes us. The power of persistent prayer is tremendous — not only to bring about miracles, but to sustain us throughout our journey.
