He’s not backing out of His investment so fast. As any investor knows, highs and lows are par for the course. Rather than selling at the first downturn, savvy investors ride out the market’s swings to get the best returns in the long run. There was once a struggling bochur who had tried one yeshiva after another, with no success. The yeshivos had given up on him, and he had nearly given up on himself. His last hope was to go learn in Eretz Yisroel, where perhaps the change in pace might push him to succeed. When he approached his father with this thought, he received a disheartening response. Finances were simply too tight, there was no way he could go. His father then suggested, "Perhaps Rav Kalman Krohn could help. He raises money for all kinds of causes." The young man met Rav Kalman and was immediately touched by his warmth. "I'm going to give you the money," Rav Kalman declared, "but I need you to do your part, and give it your all”. The boy agreed, and journeyed to Eretz Yisroel. Across the ocean, his struggles continued. He wasn't learning much and certainly wasn't growing spiritually. Although Rav Kalman had asked him to stay in touch, he was ashamed to call. Sensing something was amiss, Rav Kalman reached out himself. When the bochur admitted his failures, Rav Kalman's response was firm: "I'm not going to let you give up. You cannot come home yet." He explained to the boy, "When you invest in a stock, you must believe in it completely. If you pull out at the first sign of difficulty, you forfeit the tremendous dividends that await. I've invested in you, I believe in you, and I refuse to let go of my stock." These words ignited something in the boy’s heart. He turned his life around, transformed by the power of someone who truly believed in him. Nishmas Kol Chai – Hashem breathed life into every one of us.
