הַמְעוֹרֵר יְשֵׁנִים וְהַמֵּקִיץ נִרְדָּמִים –
 He awakens those who sleep and arouses those who slumber.
וּמֵשִׂיחַ אִלְּמִים וּמַתִּיר אֲסוּרִים –
 He gives speech to the mute and releases the bound.
וְסוֹמֵךְ נוֹפְלִים וְזוֹקֵף כְּפוּפִים –
He supports the fallen and straightens those who are bent.

Reading this pasuk, we see how Hashem meets every person exactly where they are. But how does Hashem know just what we need?

In the words of Mrs. Chani Juravel:

I went through a very difficult time when one of my children was going through a serious medical ordeal.

After a long and complicated, yet successful surgery, I called a Rav and said, “We need to make a seudas hoda’ah.”

He asked me, “Aren’t you still in the middle of the journey?”

“Yes… we still have a long road ahead,” I answered.

“And if this were a contractor, would you pay him at this point in the project?” the Rav asked. 

He then shared something with me that I never forgot: “You can be a lot harder on Hashem, His shoulders are very wide. 

You just need to tell Him what you need. 

Hashem doesn’t need a polished version of us. He doesn’t expect us to pretend everything is okay when it’s not.

That might be the face we choose to show in b’reshus harabim. But in tefillah, it’s just us and Him.

Hashem knows what we need — when we tell Him.

When we say, “I’m too tired.” When we admit, “I need help.”

And then —
לְךָ לְבַדְּךָ אֲנַחְנוּ מוֹדִים.

We thank You — for knowing what we need, even when we struggle to say it, for never judging us when we cry out, and for carrying us, every step of the way.
